Consumer powerhouses Apple and Samsung are promoting smart watches as new technology gadgets that will bring a whole new dimension to the market. The funny factor is that these so-called most current technology gadgets are not precisely new or cutting edge.

They just happen to catch the interest of today's shoppers - just like their tablet counterparts.

The watch embedded with computing technology in fact goes as far back as 1972.
