Relive Candy Through The Decades

Candy has been around for hundreds of years and has come in many forms. However, the flavor of it today is as pleasant to us as it was to people who enjoyed the first candies. It is fun to get nostalgic though, eating the candy that is old fashion that is still available online today.

Many types of candy are involved in this assortment ranging from hard candy to mints. A company that has survived throughout the years, in fact since 1842, making candy is Whitman's. The company Whitman's has been manufacturing candy since 1842. The sampler box with an assortment of chocolates by Whitman is about the most recognized product of this company.

Such other candies as in the candy canes, butter mints, and candy corn also date back before 1920. I bet you did not realize these candies have been around for more than 90 years. Brach's offers hard butterscotch discs to this time period.

Let's move on to the 1920s and examine some of the eat retro candy of this time period. Bit-O-Honey, Baby Ruth and Abba-Zaba are a few great candies that came on in the 1920s and are still sold now. Zero, Charleston Chew, or Black Cow are some of the beloved candies of the 1920s.

Chunky, 5th Avenue and 3 Musketeers are some of the popular brands of the 1930s. Kit Kat bars, candy buttons, and caramels also came out in this decade.

Now, for the candy of the 1940s you will see such things as Almond Joy, Bazooka Bubble Gum, and the original Dots. Dots used to have the name Mason Dots. The Dots have various flavors mixed in the box and are gum drops that are chewy in nature. This decade also saw the creation of M & M's. We also need to discuss the fact that some delectable chocolate-covered malt balls called Whoppers are part of the 1940s.

Jolly Rancher candies, Hot Tamales, Fizzies, Bonomo's Turkish Taffy, candy necklaces just to mention some were beloved treats during the 1950s. Then the 1960s ushered in candy such as Astro Pops, Good & Fruity, Now & Later, Starburst, Swedish Fish, and Twizzlers candy just to mention a small number.

Now, the 1970s also saw some tasty items come on the scene. During the seventies, the Blow Pops, Hershey's Special Dark Bar, Jelly Belly beans, Gobstoppers and Big Red Gum were some of the candies and gums. We also must mention Lik-M-Aid Fun Dip powder, Laffy Taffy, Pop Rocks, and Reese's Pieces.

The 1980s brought in such candy as Airheads a tangy chewy candy with a taffy-like consistency. A divided bar of caramel-filled milk chocolate called Caramello started its popularity in the eighties. Some more beloved sweets of the 1980s include Smarties, Gummi Bears, Skittles, Sour Patch Kids, and Nerds.

It is easy to see these vintage candies covered a wide range of items and varied in nature from pre-1920 all the way to the 1990s. Some were plain chocolate bars, while others were quite inventive in nature. From powdered sweets for licking to chocolate that melted in your mouth could be found.
